Help Katie Heal

Donation protected
Dear family and friends,

The Widdicombe/ Cox clan (Bob, Karen, Katie and Maggie) need our help, love and support.

On Jan. 21 Katie got engaged to Dave Langlee, everyone was thrilled with the news and a fall wedding was in the works. Unfortunately that same day Katie found a lump in her breast. She went to her Dr. who she had just seen for a physical in November. They hadn't felt anything just 2 months earlier, but the Dr. suggested she have a mammogram to have it checked out. Karen had flown out Feb. 15th for a visit and Katie asked if she would go along with her to the appointment the following day. Katie had a mammogram and sonogram and was then referred to go have a biopsy the following Wednesday, which was the soonest they could see her. After a stressful week of waiting for the unknown Katie received the call, she has been diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer. Katie was referred to Swedish Breast Cancer Clinic in Seattle, which has a reputation for being one of the best in the country. She met with a genetics counselor, surgeon and oncologist to go over treatments options and learn more about what she is up against. Luckily it was found early and is stage one, the Drs. don't think it has spread to the lymph nodes and we recently got the news that Katie does not carry the breast cancer gene, so all of that is a huge relief! However it is what is called triple positive, and is a more aggressive form, luckily there have been new discoveries in medicine that target these types of cancers. When the Drs. found out Katie was recently engaged they asked if she was planning to have children. When she replied yes they quickly sent her to Seattle Reproductive Center as there is a chance her eggs will be damaged with chemo and radiation.

So far Katie has had a lumpectomy, went through a week of shots in preparation for harvesting her eggs, has had her eggs harvested and a port put in, in preparation for chemo which she will start on March 28. She will need chemo every week for 3 months and then radiation everyday for 6 weeks. Katie and her family are facing a long bumpy road ahead but she has so much love and support behind her. When her friends and coworkers found out Katie and Dave were planning on going down to the court house they insisted on throwing her a wedding. They were able to throw together the most amazing wedding in just over a week. Through all of this Katie says she still feels lucky to have so many people on her team. She has a great team of Drs, Family, friends and loved ones to help get her through! During this time Katie and her family will be intently focused on defeating this cancer, and they will need our support and love. Karen, Katie's amazing mom is in Seattle and plans to stay as long as she is needed.

Our goal is to raise $25,000 to pay for the tremendous expenses related to Katie's healing path. Please contribute.
