Jonathon Parrish's critical-care medical bills

Donation protected
A little after 8pm on Monday, April 22nd, a drunk driver struck and critically injured Jonathon Parrish as he was biking in southeast Urbana. The driver fled the scene but was luckily identified by a 911-calling nurse, who then turned her attention to saving Jon's life. His injuries were extensive and he was lucky to survive, thanks to those on the scene and first responders. The driver was subsequently arrested (now out on bail).

Jon had just started a new job and is currently without medical insurance. Obviously in this case he shouldn't be paying for anything, but we know how the system works. On top of normal bills that won't wait, the added expenses of a hospital stay can be immense. And without his own insurance to cover costs as they arise (and seek damages), this is going to be quite a challenge.

This is all in the very early stages and there's no way to tell how high the expenses might get, how long the work stoppage could be, or what other monies will suddenly be needed. People have been very kind to want to very quickly mobilize and donate, so this GFM is going to serve as a place to make donations for all of these sudden expenses and bridge Jon and his family through this time. If circumstances change and we need to up the goal or refocus, we'll cross that bridge as it comes. The need really isn't going to go away.

In addition, several local musicians, venues, promoters, and fans are all working on some events where local donations and support can be offered. Jon is one of us, and--along with Therese--has made Mid-October one of the brightest spots in the Champaign-Urbana music scene. We all do what we can to support our peers. I'll post updates about events to this page.

It's very important to understand that you're donating to help them get through this tumultuous time. Any little bit helps. Some time down the road he may see some justice, but GoFundMe is unfortunately how we fund health care for far too many people. If you're strapped and can't donate any money but still want to help, there are other things that are needed! Maybe rides or food drops. Or...
If you're reading this and you'd like to donate your time and energy, please email [email redacted] so she can get this organized.
