Syrian Refugee Family Rent Fund

Donation protected
*****UPDATE*****
Thanks to your overwhelming generosity we will be able to pay both the December and January rent for this family! They are so grateful for the opportunity to get a little bit ahead as the father resumes work! I will be withdrawing funds and personally pay the landlord directly in check form.  We simply cannot thank you all enough!

Over the past year, I have had the good fortune to have connected with a group of women who have been working locally to support the needs of several families of Syrian Refugees in Raleigh.

We are not a non-profit or an official organization of any kind. We are just a group of friends, neighbors and colleagues who share a desire to make these families feel welcome and help them in any way we can to adjust to and thrive in the United States.

We help with:

Basic food coverage in times of need
Medicaid, Food Stamp, WIC application and re-application
Assistance navigating, and advocating for children within, the public school system
Job Searches
Help obtaining drivers licenses
English Tutoring
Connecting the families with good medical/dental providers
Transportation to medical appointments
Arranging fun field trips for the children such as beach outings and movies
Assistance reading incoming mail

One of our families is facing a very difficult time right now and we would like to invite you to consider helping them in this time of need. The father recently had surgery at Duke to replace a rod which was placed in his leg in Jordan while his family was living in a refugee camp awaiting placement. His recovery will take two months, during which time he is unable to resume his work as a painter. Our primary concern is his rent which is $800 per month and due on December 5th. The Mosque was very generous to cover his rent in November and it is likely that this will be the last month in which he needs help. This family includes both parents, two teenage daughters and a son in elementary school.  Sadly, this family experienced the trauma of homelessness in the US after being settled originally in Baltimore where the cost of living was much too high for a single person earning minimum wage to support a family of five. They recovered from this frightening period and have been living with stability and continued employment in the same home in Raleigh since resettling here.

My hope is that we will be able to cover the rent for this family and allow the father to complete his healing free from fear of homelessness.  Thank you for considering helping this truly kind and deserving family.
