Helping the Helper - Danae Martin's Cancer Story

Donation protected
Danae is probably not used to being the one to ask for help. Danae is the one used to giving help. To know her is to understand that Danae will give whatever is needed to whoever may need it.

And now, Danae needs our help. She and her family are battling what no one ever wants to battle, the word no one ever expects to hear: Cancer. Danae is a 37-year-old mother to the world's sweetest daughter. Danae moves forward with the support of Chad, with her family, and with her friends and community. Medical expenses and support for Danae mean the world, and allow her to focus on what she needs to focus on right now.

We hope that you will consider donating what you are able to Danae's GoFundMe, to her Venmo (@danae-martin-24), or to her in-person Benefit on February 26 (details below).

January 23, 2023 Update, in the words of Danae's sister:
"I have had a very heavy heart the last few weeks. My sister fell extremely ill and was admitted to the hospital for several days. While being in the hospital she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which has metastasized to her liver. She is only 37 and has a 12 year old daughter. There are some alternative therapies that she is pursuing and they are not covered by medical insurance. She will be going to the Cancer research center in Chicago (but will still incur a lot of out of pocket expenses). Please consider giving to my sisters Venmo or attending the benefit. My sister has never been a person to ask for much help, but has always been willing to help her loved ones. If you know Danae you know how much she cares for her friends and family. Now is our time to show her that we are there to support her.

Some background:
On January 11th Danae went into the er for the first time with nausea and pain under her rib area. They did a CT scan and found some concerning spots in
her gallbladder and Liver. She was set up with an appointment on January 13th with an oncologist but was back at the er January 12th for weakness and
nausea and was admitted and sent over to Rock Island for a Gl doctor to do a biopsy on her liver. After spending 7 days in the hospital and being
treated for an infection in her gallbladder and liver, she was given the results of her biopsy that it was cancerous. She was then discharged and given another appointment with a different oncologist the following day. At the appointment she was given her diagnosis of Stage 4 Liver Cancer. Saturday January 20th she went to Dubuque to do IV infusions (which is not covered by insurance) and will be going to Chicago to the cancer treatment centers of America (they will cover some of the cost but not all). We are doing a benefit to help alleviate some of the financial burden this diagnosis has already and will continue to add as she begins treatments and has been unable to work. It will also go to help take care of her daughter as well!
