Helping Renee, Brian, and Kirby Raise the Roof

Hi, my name is Carol and I am helping raise money for Renee, Brian, and Kirby.

On February 4, 2024 a fire of unknown origin consumed the multi-generational home of Renee, Brian & Kirby. Renee’s grandfather built the home in the late 1930s completing it in 1940. All were home when the fire broke out on Sunday morning and were able to get out safely with only minor burns and singed hair. The news disclosed the address with drone footage. Looters came that night, and added insult to injury by breaking into the charred carcass of the house and making off with whatever salvageable family heirlooms and valuables remaining like hyenas and vultures tearing the last meat off of the bones.

Many friends and acquaintances have offered assistance, with household items and clothing which are greatly appreciated. However, they are moving into temporary housing for the next year to a studio with limited space. The best way, besides prayers would be to allow those who would like to help to contribute to this Go Fund Me to help with the future.

To make matters worse, the realization that the home, being a hillside dwelling in Los Angeles, was underinsured for the monumental tasks that are in the near foreseeable future.

The basics of boarding up the house, environmental mitigation, demolition, code compliance with Hillside Dwelling Ordinance, Engineers, Geological and Soil reports, could easily consume the majority of insurance coverage before any building supplies and rebuilding can happen. It’s a process that could take years, longer than the term of the insurance claim.

If you feel moved or compelled to make a financial contribution beyond prayers, good vibes and well wishes, to make it reciprocal, an original John Dominique painting that was not destroyed is being offered by Renee to the first 50 donors of $200 or more. Hundreds of original artworks were destroyed in the fire however some were off site and survived.

Any contributions are welcome to help support Renee, Brian and Kirby as they try to navigate these murky waters while in a fog of shock as they process their new reality. Being stoic their nature is to not ask for help. They are more comfortable being helpers than receivers of help. But at this point, they are consumed with the most immediate survival tasks and how to move forward. They are grateful for the outpouring of concern and willingness to support them during this devastating event.
