Helping Our Friend Richard

Hi DPU fam,

I wanted to bring to your attention that someone in our family is going through a life-changing ordeal and really needs us though he'd never ask for our help. A guy who has been there for many of us, some several times over, some with just a smile or joke, some with his presence when no one else was there for you. He's always just been that type of guy.

Please be discreet as he has only shared this with a few and the last thing we want is for him to have to field a bunch of messages/calls when he needs to be there for his wife and kids. I'm talking about Richard Johnson.

Last month, his wife was diagnosed with a rare inoperable for of brain cancer. Richard works in sales in the paper business and this usually has him on the road a lot. Given her situation, he's had to change that and be available close to home. I refuse to ask him what kind of financial impact that makes because frankly it's none of my business. But cancer treatment is not cheap and one never know truly what ground you are standing on when you make requests for job flexibility in a private company in a competitive market.

So why I writing you guys? I would like to start a gofundme for Rich's family. You can give what is on your heart to do but in 2 weeks, whatever the number is will be what we will give from his friends from his time at DePauw. PLEASE DO NOT SHARE THIS ON YOUR TIMELINE AS WE AREN'T TELLING HIM WE ARE DOING THIS!!!
