Helping My Mom "Lola Baby" with her Medical Bills

Hi Everyone, It is with heavy heart to tell my struggle about my Mom. I have not seen her for 15 years after moving to the US, but we do talk on video chat and text from time to time to see her Apo, Penny. Last week, my sister and I found out from family members that she had a wound on her foot for 3 weeks now. She did not want to worry us, so she decided not to tell us and chose to self heal and use home remedies.

 

Unfortunately, It was not healing due to her diabetes. The wound got infected, to a point it reached the bone. The doctor initially suggested to scrape the wound to save this leg since she already had the other one amputated a few years back.

 

My Mom lives in the Philippines, she has medical insurance, but not enough to cover for her surgery. If you lived in the Philippines at some point, you know it is hard to get anything done at the hospital without payment.

 

I am reaching out to everyone I know to see if my family and I can get help in paying her medical bills.

She is currently admitted to the hospital with about $800 per day cost to keep her medicated for her infection. The hospital is holding until we approve the quote for the surgery, and we were quoted PHP250,000 which is about USD 5,500. We tried to move her to a public hospital, but due to covid patients there is no room for her to be admitted there.

 

Thank you all for your help. I would usually try to figure this out on my own, but I live paycheck to paycheck... there is no way for me to even cover a quarter of this bill.
