Helping Hands for Matt and Mistie
The purpose of this GoFundMe is to support our friend and coworker, Matt Carpenter, and his wife in the wake of a horrible tragedy.
On January 23rd, 2020, Matt was at work in the cardiac cath lab at Swedish Medical Center in a suburb of Denver when he received the kind of phone call that every pet owner fears the most: his home was on fire. All of us were heartbroken to hear that none of the animals survived the fire. Matt and his wife Mistie are a lovely, hard-working couple who were pet parents to six dogs, multiple cats, one bird, one sugar glider, and several dozen fish. Mistie is an administrative assistant for another local health care facility. They are the definition of animal lovers. Their pets brought them so much joy, as they do not have any human children. They have been together since high school and were extremely proud of the large pet family that they had built.
Matt is a former Army combat medic with two tours under his belt. He was awarded two Purple Hearts during his time of service. His dogs, especially a Rottweiler named Axel, provided him with much comfort and companionship. Matt, Axel, and his other Rottweiler were very active in Schutzhund training, a pre-training process for working service dogs. He was working towards both dogs being active service dogs. This was something that Matt devoted a significant amount of time to and was very proud of.
We are all still in shock and cannot possibly understand how Matt and Mistie are feeling in the aftermath of this tragic event, but we would like to provide them with some sort of monetary support in the coming months as they deal with the loss of their beloved pets and the extensive damage that their home sustained. Nothing will be able to bring back their pets, but we take comfort in the fact that they hold close the precious memories of them and the fact that they are surrounded by people who care. They are currently displaced from their home and have lost many other valuable and necessary belongings. Please consider helping these two precious people who would be willing to do the same for anyone else.
