Helping hands for Lorenzo

Last year in February my brother Lorenzo went to see a dermatologist for an assumed to be harmless swelling of the skin. A week later we received the devastating diagnosis: Metastatic Melanoma stage IV. The metastases had spread to the bones, muscles, nearly all organs and allover the skin.
Until that moment Lorenzo was a positive 21-year-old who was passionate about football, enjoyed life and was soon to start an apprenticeship. He had not yet found the love of his life and there were still many wishes to be fulfilled on his bucket list.
For nearly one and a half years he has fought rigorously through chemotherapy, several radiation therapies, one immune therapy and two local therapies. All of them accompanied by all kinds of side effects, but unfortunately without the cure we all have been hoping for.
Meanwhile there are fractures in his spine and ribs, metastases have developed in the brain and due to the prolonged exposure to cortisol, Lorenzo is suffering from Cushing’s syndrome. He has gained 30 kilograms and has open wounds all over his body. He is not allowed to do sports and has to stay in bed for most of the day, because there is not much that he can still do.
My parents and I are trying everything to compensate for the lessening contact with friends. We try to motivate him and give him some positive perspectives - although this is hardly possible to do.
Our father has stopped working in order to care for my brother. My mother is the only one working at the moment. My parents´ life savings have been used up for all the additional costs. Currently Lorenzo is receiving sickness allowance, but only for a limited time. He is too young and has not worked long enough to get state benefits, a pension or other governmental support. Due to his tragic health situation he is unable to work. This is the reason why I would like to help Lorenzo and also my parents so that they at least do not have to worry about the costs of daily living.
Also I would like to fulfill some of Lorenzo´s wishes, like taking a cruise (he is not allowed to fly) or getting a car where he, despite his physical restrictions, is able to sit in and from time to time make small excursions.
It has cost me quite an effort to ask for help, especially financial help, but it is extremely difficult to help Lorenzo fight for his life. The financial support would mean one burden less for us. I love my brother more than anything and want to take this burden from him. I sincerely thank every person who kindly contributes.

Letztes Jahr im Februar 2016 war mein Bruder Lorenzo wegen eines vermeintlichen Lipoms beim Hautarzt. Eine Woche später hatten wir die niederschmetternde Diagnose: Metastasierendes Melanom Stadium IV. Die Metastasen hatten sich in den Knochen, Muskeln, fast allen Organen und der Haut ausgebreitet.
Lorenzo war bis dahin ein fußballbegeisterter, lebenslustiger 21-jähriger, der in Kürze eine Ausbildung beginnen wollte. Die Liebe seines Lebens hatte er noch nicht gefunden und auch sonst waren noch viele Lebenswünsche offen.
Nach fast 1,5 Jahren, die er kämpft (und wie er kämpft) hat er eine Chemo, mehrere Strahlentherapien, eine Immuntherapie und zwei zielgerichtete Therapien hinter sich. Immer mit allen erdenklichen Nebenwirkungen. Leider ohne den erhofften Erfolg.
Mittlerweile sind die Halswirbelsäule und eine Rippe gebrochen, es haben sich Hirnmetastasen gebildet und aufgrund der hohen Cortisongaben ein CushingSyndrom. Er hat 30 kg zugenommen, seine Haut ist überall gerissen, er hat offene Wunden, darf keinen Sport machen und liegt die meiste Zeit des Tages im Bett, weil es wenig gibt, was er noch machen kann. Meine Eltern und ich versuchen alles, den schwindenden Kontakt zu Freunden zu kompensieren, ihn zu motivieren,und die sehr eingeschränkte Perspektive zu erweitern, auch wenn das kaum möglich ist.
Unser Vater arbeitet nicht mehr, um meinen Bruder zu versorgen. Unsere Mutter ist Alleinverdienerin. Die Altersversorgung meiner Eltern ist für die ganzen zusätzlichen Ausgaben aufgebraucht. Lorenzo bekommt im Moment noch Krankengeld, aber danach nichts mehr. Zu jung für Hartz 4, die Rentenjahre zu wenig und sonst gibt es keine staatliche Unterstützung. An Arbeiten ist aufgrund des dramatischen gesundheitlichen Zustands nicht zu denken. Aus diesem Grund würde ich Lorenzo, aber auch meinen Eltern gerne helfen, dass Sie sich wenigstens über den Lebensunterhalt keine Sorgen machen müssen.
Auch würde ich Lorenzo gerne ein paar Wünsche erfüllen, wie eine Schiffsreise (fliegen darf er nicht mehr), ein Auto, in das er trotzseiner körperlichen Einschränkungen besser einsteigen kann, und ab und zu eine kleine Unternehmung.
Es hat mich große Überwindung gekostet, um Hilfe zu bitten, vor allem um finanzielle Hilfe, aber es ist so unaussprechlich schwer, mit Lorenzo um sein Leben zu kämpfen, dass für uns finanzielle Unterstützung eine große Sorge weniger bedeuten würde. Ich liebe meinen Bruder über alles und möchte ihm diese Sorge nehmen. Ich danke jedem Menschen von Herzen, der ein bisschen dazu beiträgt.
