Sometime late last week  unbeknownst to Hadley's parents, Hadley (2 years old) ingested a small lithium button battery. The battery immediately lodged itself in her esophagus and within minutes started to burn and erode her esophagus.
While Hadley's parents knew something was not right with their daughter, they had no idea she had even ingested something much less a button battery.
Concerned Hadley was not well they made the 2.5 hour drive to the closest ER where Hadley was improperly diagnosed with a possible ear infection and sent home.  Several more calls followed by her mother (my daughter Emma) to the ER in the 24 hours following, all of which yielded little help.  After Hadley grew more sick and inconsolable her parents made another trip back to the ER where their concerns for Hadley were stressed again.  At which time an xray was performed and the button battery was immediately seen on the image.  With little time to spare Hadley and her parents were then rushed by ambulance another 2 hours away across state lines to a Hospital in Boise, Idaho that was better equipped for this type of trauma / emergency and surgery. Hadley has been heavily sedated and on a ventilator since. Her prognosis is unclear but she is now being well cared for at the Hospital in Boise. While for now it is a minute by minute, hour by hour ordeal, the future is very much an unknown. Hadley is a spunky smart little girl and clearly a fighter who has been strong from the very start of this ordeal.
Our entire family has been praying for her but the difficulties they face now are numerous. Hadley has a 5 year old sister who is unable to be with her and her parents. They are now over 5 hours away from home, relying on friends to care for their many farm animals.
Hadley's father Tucker is unable to work (Apprentice Lineman) during this and their expenses are beginning to mount.  More surgeries are expected and Hadley's prognosis and recovery are uncertain this early on.
As Hadley's grandmother, I am left feeling helpless so it is my hope that I can at least help my granddaughter Hadley, my daughter and her family by starting this gofundme to alleviate some of the stress and financial burdens they are experiencing and will continue to grow and experience over the next few days, weeks, months and years ahead for Hadley.  First and foremost your Prayers for my Granddaughter Hadley are very much needed and any donations will be greatly appreciated.
