Helping Guatemalans who lost homes to hurricanes
Donation protected
Dear Friends,
Many of you may have heard how recent hurricanes Eta and Iota ravaged Central America, leaving a wake of destruction. Many years ago I had the privilege of serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala. I spent over 2 years in the town of La Union in the Department of Zacapa, near the border of Honduras. The rural villages in the surrounding mountains suffered acute poverty, most without electricity or running water. The families and farmers I worked with were incredible, inspiring, hardworking, and committed to helping each other, strengthening their communities, and protecting their natural resources. And they need our help.
With the recent hurricanes, this community, like other parts of Central America was hit incredibly hard. Roads, homes, and farms were lost. I have been in touch with a good friend and community leader there, Clemente Escalante, about helping 6 families (3 of whom are single mothers) who lost their homes in the hurricane.
Thank you to those of you who can help in any way.
