Last week I got an early morning call from my mom that I thought would be just a quick trip to the ER. .. It almost turned out being the last call I would get from her.
She was having extreme pain in her left side and back. After a few various tests and X-rays they discovered she had a 11cm (4inch) kidney stone. The doctor recommended she be admitted immediately due to the bad infection this was causing.
She being the stubborn one she is didn’t want to be admitted because she knew it meant canceling out on her clients. Which also meant no income coming in for the time she would need to recover. She owns her own cleaning business and does 99% of all jobs on her own.
Knowing waiting would only make matters worse, she said ok to having them put a stint in her kidney to drain it while they dosed her with antibiotics. A simple procedure I was told....no more than 15 minutes or so.
Her surgery was at 5pm, and around 8pm I was notified that she was in the ICU. A simple procedure turned into a fight for her life when she had a bad reaction to the anesthesia, which I now know is called malignant hypothermia. She was lucky enough that the doctor caught it and they were able to stabilize her.
She is now out out of the hospital and just yesterday got the referral to see the urologist. We know she will need time to heal, which means no work and mortgage and bills adding up. She is so worried about losing her house that I’m afraid she will push herself before her body is ready. My brother and I are doing what we can taking care of some of her clients but our time is limited. So we were hoping to raise enough to take care of everything for a month in hopes of her not pushing herself.
