Helping Fatima and her family during hard times

Donation protected
Fatima is a hardworking 23-year-old mom, wife, and nursing student. Her and her husband both immigrated from El Salvador in pursuit of their dreams. Currently, she works as a clinical assistant at Dana Farber Cancer Institute while attending nursing school and caring for her family. Despite the stress of being on the frontlines during this pandemic, Fatima has always shown compassion and dedication to her patients and her job.

Neither Fatima or her husband had the option for remote work over the last year and have been risking exposure by coming into work throughout the pandemic. Unfortunately, last month their fears came true and Covid-19 made it into their home, infecting Fatima, her husband, her mother, and 3yr old son, Joseph. Joseph  had incredibly high risk complications, leaving their family with multiple doctor’s visits, trips to the ER, and an inpatient stay at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) for Joseph.

Most recently, Joseph was diagnosed with Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C) associated with his Covid-19 infection. Fatima missed multiple days of work staying with Joseph at MGH, and her husband missed work while experiencing the extreme side effects of Covid-19 himself. The missed pay for both Fatima and her husband has impacted their efforts to keep their family together in the United States. Fatima worked hard and became a U.S. citizen in 2019 and the process for obtaining her husband's green card is proving to be more complicated than originally expected, in part because of the many legal fees. As you can imagine, the medical bills are piling up and the expenses to keep her family together has put a huge strain on them financially. Fatima is an incredibly hard worker and has been sacrificing her own health and self care for the sake of her family- but there is only so much she can do.

In these difficult times we are seeing not only how important kindness and compassion is, but that sometimes we all need a bit of help to make it through. Everyone is dealing with their own struggles in these unprecedented times, but if you are able to contribute even a small amount of money to this deserving family, and will be forever appreciated.

Thank you and be safe and healthy.
