Did you know that Breast Cancer effects 1 in 12 women. That is a high ratio and what happened to my mother.
My mother and I did not become friends until I moved out of the house when I was 18 years old. You see, we are so alike that we constantly were butting heads.
I cannot imagine my life without her because now, at 24 years old, she is my best friend. She is my biggest fan, a shoulder, two ears, a soccer mom (now a volleyball mom, track mom, softball mom) through and through.
She is my mother and she is going through Chemotherapy.
Witnessing Chemotherapy infusions has been the one of the most surreal occurrences that I have experienced in my life... and I am not even the one receiving the treatments. Chemo makes you sick as a dog, gives you mouth sores, you lose your sense of taste, you lose your hair (painfully), you are nauseous for DAYS at a time, you can't sleep because of how uncomfortable you are, you're fatigued because you can't sleep, you can't control your vomiting, you crave food but you can't taste it, and the list goes on.
To make things even better, after dealing with what the Doctors and nurses call "The Red Devil" (look it up, it is named accurately) the bills start rolling in. Insurance pays some, the rest is up to you.
My mother is very strong, she is selfless, empowering, inspiring and this list goes on. I hope to be half the woman she is one day. My mother doesn't ask for help, but she needs help.
My parents are raising my brother and sister on one income. We need the support, love and prayers from her family and friends to help her to overcome this illness and for her to start her road to recovery.
She has 12 weeks left of treatment, and my goal is to have $5,000 raised for her by the end. If you cannot send money, please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. If you want to send her a card please do that. She needs her village behind her these next couple of months, and I know that I can count on each and every one of you to help.
We love you all, and we cannot express how much the outpouring of love that we have received has truly humbled us and we are so thankful to have you all in our lives.
