Brenda Westbrook’s family is bracing for what may be a long road to recovery after her involvement in a seven-vehicle collision...
On Oct. 7, 46-year old Westbrook was taken to the Hamilton General Hospital. Since then, she underwent surgeries for a ruptured spleen, a fractured vertebrae, a bruise on her brain and an aortic arch.
The above are direct statements from an article Guelph Today did on Brenda. She is now at the Guelph General ICU still recovering from major injuries. She has been on a respirator, transferred to a trach with ventilator. She has been on a feeding tube, and is unable to speak at this time.
As of today, Nov 20th, there is talk of the trach and feeding tube coming out, but at this moment it is just talk, we do not know for sure. As well, this time there is no feeling in her legs and she may never walk again.
We are seeking assistance with being able to prepare the home for when she is finally released. We do not know the extent of all she will need yet but things like a commode, a wheelchair (potentially power chair), a lift to assist get her in and out of the house, chair lift for the stairs, the list could go on from here. There is no telling when she will be able to return to work, if ever, and there will be a multitude of new expenses to deal with.
We are so very thankful and lucky that Brenda survived the accident! Now we just need help to be able to make sure her return to home can allow for continued success in her recovery.
