Helping Aunt Bessie

As family and friends  know, Bessie Venable is a tough woman 79 years young.

Her primary care giver is Mary, her only child.

 Their bond is one which has seen them through the sudden loss of Bessie’s husband, Mary’s father, over 30 years ago and a host of life’s other twists and turns.

It can not be denied that their faith in God has been sorely tested, and he has definitely seen them through!

 Many years ago Bessie succumbed to a sudden unforeseen illness which attacked her kidneys and made her a dialysis patient.  In time she lost first one leg and then the other as well as some fingers.

Through the years,  they’ve gotten by with the of a very small handful of the dearest of family members, neighbors and friends ,

 But life didn’t stop throwing curve balls at them.

Together, they struggled on through the difficulties of getting to dialysis three times a week, hospitalizations and even a recent car accident where a deer collided with their car on the passenger side where Bessie  was sitting

Recently, Mary was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit and was left unable to work. Doctors will not let her return to work now  because her body absolutely  needs time to heal. In addition, since Mary is out of work she is not earning any money at all ! 

Truthfully, it’s getting  to the part of the road where  they’ve gone as far as they can without some  more serious help.  Instead of being the care giver, Mary has become the patient  too. She can no longer lift her mom into and out of the car for doctors appointments or dialysis.

It can simply rip your heart out.

We would like to see them get nine months of assistance so that Mary can get back safely on her feet.

For family and friends, we know that life in this crazy world can get rough as we struggle just to make it from day to day with our own anxieties.

But here is a chance for us to turn those warm loving feelings towards Bessie and Mary into some real and tangible help that will help them move forward on the road of life.
