We are coming up on 5 yrs since McKenzie got sick with Entero Virus D68 which caused Acute Flaccid Myelitis. She’s a neck down quadraplegic on a ventilator still. She’s had some progress, small to others but huge to us! My girl is 11 yrs old now and has a lot of big ambitions for this world! We’ve had a lot of setbacks with things. In Philadelphia the Shriners there wants to see her. I sent them her records in hopes for another opinion on her legs/knees. They’re also going to do a lot of other evaluations on her of things that haven’t been done before. Also see if she might be a nerve/ tendon transfer candidate! They said don’t give up hope until you see us! They have seen a lot of AFM patients there, so the more knowledge about this disease the better! McKenzie’s bones are too fragile to fly. Angel flights are too expensive and you aren’t allowed to bring the power chair and only I could go and we could only have 2 small bags I was told. So I’d be on my own with no way to get her to and from the hospital. So we are driving her towards the end of this month. 3050 miles there and then back. We have 6 days of appointments there so we’ll be in Philadelphia for 7 days to leave on the 8 th. We are planning on 4-5 days to get there , because we’re going to have to stop a lot for her bum in her chair and for my legs ( to prevent blood clots) So 1-2 nights possibly 3 depending on how she does at places along the way. My husband, myself and 1 nurse and of course McKenzie! We will be gone at least 15-16 days. So my husband will have missed a paycheck and a half by the time we are home. So we are really going on an angel and a prayer!Because the last 5 yrs have been kind of small for sis and I . I’m hoping we can turn our stops along the way into fun adventures! To balance out the hard parts of the trip with some good! It’s going to open up a big world to us! This is going to be an expensive trip but priceless for the reasons! Driving a child on life support across the country will be no easy task! I have no choice but to do this and got it approved so just been doing what we can to come up with the money to have a safe  but fun trip! We had a garage sale and different people are doing things to help us get there! ( Our Earth Angels) I’ve had a few people ask me to put up a go fund me so they can help. I’m sorry for always asking for help ! This life is a hard one but we’ve gotten over a lot of mountains , thanks to our village ! Our family! This is really my chance possibly last to get some things figured out and know I tried the best I could to give her the best chance at the best possible life she can live! If I can’t get her weight bearing, her bones will continue to get worse and I need someone to help me figure out our next move ! Thankyou! And God bless! Please say lots of prayers for this journey to go smoothly and for good news from all her tests! If not at least we tried!
