Helping Alisha

Our four-year-old daughter, Alisha, needs a lung transplant.
Alisha was born in 2013 with a very rare lung disease called Surfactant protein C deficiency. The condition means Alisha is missing the vital protein needed to inflate her lungs and means that her lungs collapse immediately like a deflating balloon whenever she tries to breathe.
Alisha only got to spend six months at home before needing to come to hospital. Since then, she has lived in the Hunter Baillie Ward at The Children’s Hospital at Westmead, relying on a ventilator 24 hours a day to keep her lungs working. While Alisha is on the ventilator, her condition can be managed; however, it also means that she cannot go home. The only real cure for her is a lung transplant.
We don’t know when Alisha’s transplant will be, we hope it is soon, but we have to rely on organ donation. When the time comes, we will fly to Melbourne and Alisha will have her surgery at The Alfred Hospital.
We are asking for your support to raise funds to help Alisha and the two Hospital's who are caring for her. All funds raised will go towards:
- Her current home, the Hunter Baillie ward at The Children's Hospital at Westmead to give back to the team who have cared for her for most of her life
- The Alfred Foundation to support the team of doctors who will perform Alisha's lifesaving lung transplant
- Financial support for our family, if needed during our trip to Melbourne while we are unable to work.
