Hello Shipmates, family, friends, and strangers. If you are reading this. Either I or someone you know has passed this on to you. Thank you for taking the time to read this. I am reaching out as I have a shipmate in need. His name is Morgan Byrd. We served together in the USCG Honor Guard back in our early youth. Too young to legally drink but old enough to support and serve our country.
Morgan has been through some rough events later in his life. In 2018 his kidneys were failing him and now they are only at a 40% functionality. On top of that, he has cellulitis in his legs and has been homeless for the past month or so. I know from personal experience homelessness is a hard hole to climb out of and cannot be accomplished without support from others.
He is looking for work but does not have a place to stay now. He can stay at a Motel for $68 a night where he is in Alabama. $75-$85 would be enough for one day in a motel and money for food. My financial support goal for him is $10,000. That will be enough to get him a motel room for the winter months while he figures out what he can do to get back on his feet.
I am also hoping some of you knows of some veteran support programs in the state of Alabama he can turn to for medical care if needed. Feel free to reach out with anything you can assist with.
