Harvey Relief - Hammond Home

Donation protected
Doug and Renee Hammond have lived in their cozy home near Houston’s Memorial neighborhood for nearly 30 years. It was the house they moved into after they were married. The house they raised two children, Lauren and Will, in. The house their young granddaughter, Kinsley, begs to visit every chance she can.

They didn’t have flood insurance, why would they? It had never flooded in their neighborhood before, and friends and neighbors reassured them they didn’t have insurance either.

The waters rose so quickly and swiftly, filling their home and cars after Harvey. Within hours once the dams were released, their one story home and three vehicles were completely submerged. All of their children’s old photos, their furniture and personal items are gone. Days since Harvey has left, the waters still have not receded from their home.  At minimum, they will need to completely gut the structure and quite possibly even tear it down. As we all know, FEMA (Federal Emergency Management Agency) doesn't currently assist with the costs of rebuilding; they only offer low interest loans. These families, like the Hammonds, will have to incur more debt on top of their existing mortgages. On top of such a personal loss, the sting of financial loss will be there for many years too.

Renee works as the office manager at iOFFICE and Doug is an attorney with a small law firm. Their son, Will, just graduated from Texas Tech and was living at home. Their lives have been devastated by this catastrophe and they will be unable to rebuild their family home back on their own.

As co-workers and friends of Renee, we want to offer them assistance to try to help them restore their lives after Hurricane Harvey.  The Hammonds are kind, generous people who are always thinking of others. Despite everything that has been taken from them, this loving family remains in such high spirits. We want to show them the community they supported for so many years, wants to help support them back.
