Help for Shawn Smith

Shawn Smith is a 34 year-old man from Branchland, WV.  He’s had a tough run of luck lately and he and his family need some support from our Tri-State community.    
On July 21, 2016, Shawn fell back when a rocking chair broke and bumped his head.  He went to the hospital and a routine catscan was conducted.  They found a tumor at the base of the brain.  Shawn was diagnosed with a rare “1 in a 1,000,000” form of terminal cancer called Chordoma.  In addition to this terminal illness diagnosis, a subsequent brain surgery, and radiation….Shawn contracted strep on the brain.  If that were not enough, Shawn worked at CSX for 14 years and was recently notified that he would be laid off as part of their recent changes.  His insurance coverage is now in jeopardy.  He and his wife care for their 4 children along with 2 neices and a nephew to prevent them from going into foster care.   
Needless to say, this whirlwind of terrible events has been challenging for them.  
Do they complain?  No.  They support Relay for Life on May 14th  in Lincoln County raising money for others.  
In hopes of garnering as much help for this family in need, Chris Miller and the Dutch Miller Auto Group have taken the first step in trying to provide some relief for this family.  Their attitude and perseverance in the face of so much distress is an inspiration to all.
Dutch Miller has agreed to match all donations up to $10,000.  We are reaching out to our friends, colleagues, and media partners to help our efforts to bring a little joy to our neighbors in need.  
With our combined efforts, we hope to make this family’s dire journey just a little bit easier.
