Help Chance Pay For School
Hello, my name is Chance Ward and I am currently a rising senior at Occidental College. Those who know me, or any of my work, would know that Occidental is my dream school and that I study what I love. I major in Critical Theory and Social Justice, and also work on the campus in the Intercultural Community Center. Through my work at Occidental, I have built skills in community engagement and grassroots organizing that I would not trade for the world. However, as tuition costs have risen and circumstances have changed, I am currently looking at a $9500 gap that I did not anticipate financing back when I was a first year. This fund, literally, is a hail mary to save me from taking any more loans for my undergraduate degree and allow me to still do what I love where I am happy.
Throughout my time at occidental, I have accomplished things that I know I will one day be proud to tell my Grandkids. From being a leader in Campus advocacy in our November Occupation to even just getting a lot of Facebook clout for being your neighborhood activist media mave. I plan to do so many more things, including studying abroad in the Dominican Republic (stay tuned), and returning in the Spring to work as a Peer Mentor for the Center for Gender Equity.
I, like most, have a very hard time putting my hand out and asking for things. But I beg of you all to think of what you share as an investment. I intend to use these funds, and this education, to study and master the ways in which our communities can create an equitable and tolerant world.
