Born 27 June 1999, Umar Ali was born into a family living in Dee Why of the Northern Beaches. His parents had migrated here from overseas. Early on Umar was forced into living a sheltered lifestyle by his father. In his teenage years his social life was stunted by this overbearing control. He was only allowed to leave the house for school, this meant that the friendships that he made through school stayed as just that. He was also never allowed to seek employment, under the guise that his father would provide for him. Umar always longed for more. On the occassions that he was able to get away from his home, the consequences for disobeying his Dad were excessive. Umar's father believed that he was doing the right thing, when in fact it is quite the opposite.
After his efforts in the HSC, Umar received an invitation to begin University in 2017. Umar had aspirations to attend UNSW that year. He never got this opportunity as he was told by his family that he was to travel to Pakistan on a holiday. This meant that Umar had to defer his course to be able to go.
On July 11 2017, Umar began what he thought was a short holiday to see his Dad's side of the family in Pakistan, but as we know, there was more sinister reasoning for the trip. The plan was to return back to Australia after an event that took place 3 weeks into their holiday. After two weeks in Pakistan Umar noticed that his family were talking about events further into the future than the planned 3 weeks. A week after the event happened, when he was supposed to return home, Umar asked his Dad about when he was going home. His Dad told him that he would be staying for his Aunty's birthday in another two weeks, then returning home. After her birthday had passed, no action to leave had taken place. Umar, confused and angered, confronted his father. This is when Umar learned the true reason for the holiday.
Umar's Dad told him that they had no plans to go home.
He was told that he was to live in Pakistan and learn the culture, of which he wants nothing to do with, and to go to University, in a country that he knows none of the language. Umar was obviously extremely upset, he had just been deceived and trapped by those you are meant to trust most. Him and his father came to the agreement that Umar would complete a semester of Uni and see how he liked the country. He completed that semester in November 2017.
Umar is still not home. Nor do his parents seem like they want to leave.
Umar, my friend, is missed from his true home. He had been sheltered throughout his life. He was tricked into travelling overseas for a holiday, when there was no intention of returning. A country that he had no friendships in. A country that he didn't even speak the language.
He was meant to start at UNSW in 2017, and promised that he would start in 2018.
It may never happen.
Umar does not belong there.
Umar deserves to come home.
Umar was told that he was visiting a foreign country for three weeks. That was 9 months ago. He was tricked and deceived by those he trusted. He needs to come home.
We have been in contact with the embassy, they say they can do nothing about it. He has spoken to his father numerous times throughout the year with promises of returning home. But now his father says he is not allowed to return. With no money and no one to trust in the country. We need your help.
Please help us bring our friend home.
Most of the money will be going towards a one way flight to Australia from Pakistan. Some will be used for travel to the airport, and a portion will be used for a little kick-start for Umar's independent life when hes home.
