Help Barbara Become Mobile Again

Donation protected
"I want to go to church too"..... My name is Katherine Grant and I am a proud daughter of a Multiple Sclerosis fighter named Barbara Rainey. The opening statement was made by my mother a few weeks ago on a bright Sunday morning when my dad was getting ready for church. Over the past year it has been difficult for us to get her out of the house to Dr. Appointments, Family Functions, and  Church.  I am setting up this GoFundMe page to help raise money for a wheel chair acessable Van. This will help my mom become mobile again.  My mom is a kind hearted woman of God whom has always encourged and touched everyone she has ever met and I feel it is time for us to do something great for her.

Due to her long 12 year battle with Multiple Sclerosis (MS) she has lost her ability to use her legs. Her arms and hands now have limited mobility due to MS.  As you can imagine this makes it difficult for her to get around on her own. She now has a powered chair that gives her some moblity around the house and her front yard. However, she has stated she "feels like a prisoner in her own house", simply because she is unable to leave and travel even if it's to go to a much needed Dr. Appointment.

Multiple Sclerosis is is an inflammatory disease in which the insulating covers of nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord are damaged. Barbara has a progressive form of this meaning it progrssivley gets worse.  She has in the past missed Dr. Appointments due to lack of mobility. Finaly, after missing appointments we were able to get her to see her Dr. for a new MRI. The results  reveled she had new legions on her brain. This of course is not a good thing for MS patients as it shows the disease is getting stronger.

If we are sucessful here we can make sure she dose not miss another appointment in the future! The difficulty level of getting her out has changed as her symptoms have progressivly gotten worse. She  has a caregiver that comes and helps her out during the day however, It now takes  two people in two different vehicles to take her around town.

Currently, she has to be lifted and transfered into her van and her chair is lifted into the back of it as well. Once this is done there is no room for her lift (the one that lifts her body) to fit into the van. Therefore a second vehicle will have to travel and carry the lift. The idea of a van that she can just drive her chair into would be such a blessing for her and our family.

In todays economy, a disabled persons monthly income is just enough to barley get by. Therefore she/we are unable to finance and make full payments for a new van. If we raise the money, we will be able to pay for it in full and have it delevered to her home! Giving my mom the ability to be mobile again would be such a blessing for our family, words could not explain the joy we would have to be able to give her this new van. This van is not just a way to travel for her, it is a way for her to feel free! With your help, I am confident we will be able to make her mobile again by the end of this summer!
