Help Bobby Hannum

Donation protected
Robert “Bobby” Hannum, 94, a committed servant to his country and community, needs our help. Bobby recently sustained an injury that requires home health care and his current expenses are mounting. One month of home health care costs approximately $5000. We would love to raise enough money to allow Bobby to live in his apartment and give him the care that he needs. Bobby was a 63-year volunteer for three different volunteer fire departments in Maryland (Cabin John & Chevy Chase) and Virginia (Sterling). He selflessly served thousands and it’s our turn to help him in his time of need.

Please consider contributing today. No amount is too small. If you'd like to donate but would rather not use a credit card, checks can be made out directly to Sterling Volunteer Fire Company (with Bobby Hannum in Memo Line) and mailed to/ dropped off at: Cascades Station 18 (46700 Middlefield Drive, Sterling, VA 20165) or Sterling Park Station 11 (104 East Commerce Street, Sterling, VA 20164).

BOBBY’S STORY:

Born and raised in Cabin John, MD, Bobby joined the National Guard in February 1940 and served with the 50th Army Air Corp during World War II.  Sgt. Hannum received an honorable discharge and returned to his hometown, where he joined the Cabin John Park Volunteer Fire Department as a fireman. Additionally, He worked for 35 years at the Defense Mapping agency.
In 1967, he moved to Sterling, VA and joined the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company, where he would serve with distinction as a member of its Board of Directors. For decades, Bobby was at the station each day, and even when he retired, he came early to the station to fix coffee and share wisdom with new firefighters.

Bobby is a life member of the Cabin John Park Fire Department and was recognized by Maryland Governor Shaffer for his 39+ years of dedication to the citizens of Montgomery County. He is also an honorary member of the Sterling Volunteer Fire Company.
