Help Arieyeh Graduate Uni!

Hi I'm Arieyeh (some folks may know me as Susan)

I'm a community organizer, student, and activist living on unceded Songhees, Esquimalt, and W̱SÁNEĆ territories. I was born in South Sudan and resettled in Canada almost twenty years ago after my family fled the war.  I'm working on completing a B.A in Political Science with a minor in Public Administration from Uvic. I have one more semester of studies left and hope/ plan on completing my degree in the fall. This is where I need community support.

When the Covid-19 situation first hit I was already in a precarious financial situation. I was owing overdue tuition and unemployed. Since March my ability to work full time has been negatively impacted by this pandemic.  To keep busy and to give back I have spent the past few months organizing various community support initiatives. I'm one the organizers of the Black in BC Covid-19 Fund. Through that work, we've raised money for and supported vulnerable black community members with micro-grants since March.  I also organize to support South Sudanese youth in BC and across the country.  I love my community, and although I enjoy doing this work it has been largely unpaid and free labor,  it has come at a cost to my ability to find work and to save. For the majority of my University journey, I've spent summers working multiple full-time jobs to save enough money for the fall. This has always been how I support myself.. this year that has not been able to happen. Although I'm now in the process of looking for full-time employment I'm worried about having enough saved come fall.

I thank you all in advance for your generosity and for sharing my campaign  :)
