Send ICE to Mexico

Donation protected

Help us, students from the Institute for Collaborative Education (ICE), pay for our yearly community service trip in Nuevo Durango, Mexico!
At ICE, we strongly believe that immersion in other cultures through international travel can have life-changing effects upon our students.  We also believe that all of our students, regardless of economic ability, should be entitled to this the opportunity.

Every year, we send about 14 students to conduct bio-diversity research in the Yucatan Peninsula, at a cost of $1,975 per student.  This year, we had a large amount of kids who received scholarships from our school's PTA. Because of this, we need to raise money for the students whose families can not afford the total cost of the trip. We also need to raise money for future students who would like to take part in the trip next year. We have been working hard raising funds on our own, but we need more help reaching our final goal.

On this trip, a diverse group of students immersed themselves into the study of tropical botany while learning field method protocols through hands on research.  We worked with trained professionals to create a bio-plot, sample its diversity, and add the results to one of the largest data sets of its kind. The completed data sets will be reviewed by the Smithsonian Institute and will be presented to the United Nations in the form of a "youth accord on biodiversity.” We also studied the immersion of foreign culture in research methods.

Another key component of this expedition is the students' efforts to give back to the Nuevo Durango Mayan community that hosts us every year during the trip.  Our trip this year was the 5th time that ICE students have contributed hundreds of dollars of school supplies for the students and teachers of the small, two-room elementary school at Nuevo Durango.  A major highlight of the trip each year for ICE students is spending time with the children of Nuevo Durango.

Your contribution will help to sustain's ICE's vision of authentic learning for all of our students.  We, the current ICE Mexico group and future students to come thank you!
