Help Jeff Continue Living With ALS!

I have been blessed to live with ALS for nearly 25 years. Over 20 of those years have been on a ventilator. I have a terrific life and beautiful family! Unfortunately, my longevity has caused me to outlive equipment I depend on for my quality of life. With this disease, I was lucky to see my 30th birthday. I am now 51 years old. I’ve even begun to outlive my teeth, apparently, since Medicare does not cover dental care. I have lost two teeth within the last six months and even more concerning is the consistent oral infections which could threaten my life, especially considering the ventilator.
Because of ALS, I am physically dependent on my loving wife, who is my sole caregiver. We’ve been able to scrape by as a family of four on $1,872/month which is based on the salary I was making as a retail store manager in 1994. I have tried to limit asking for help over the years, but my disease is an expensive one to have. I’m sorry to do so; but I must, at this point, beg for help. My disease impacts my family significantly, and I cannot ask any more of my wife and children than I already do.
My loving wife now drives an eleven-year-old minivan with over 140,000 miles that starts each day with hope and prayer. She has given selflessly for over 20 years now, and I can ask no more of her.
The $5,000 is a low estimate of what I need to maintain my quality of life. I will likely lose more teeth and will need replacements. To fix my power wheelchair is about to cost $786 and if it must be replaced, which is likely, my portion will be at a minimum of $6,000. Other equipment that is over twenty years old including the system I use to type and access my computer is over $2,000 to replace. My recliner is eight-years-old, and it has lost its cushion. It may sound like a luxury, but I spend 8 to 10 hours in it each day. This list does not even include things I should have like a backup generator since my ventilator has around 12 hours of battery power. Ice storms are a harrowing experience for me.
You have my most profound gratitude for even considering contributing to help me! I pray the best for each of you and, if you can’t help me, God bless you for considering it.
