Illythia's Story:
Little Illythia was born at 1 pound 4 ounces, 11.5 inches long, 15 weeks early.
During her 7 month hospital stay she has battled Chronic Lung Disease of Prematurity/Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia, Pulmonary Hypertension, Retinopathy of Prematurity stage 2, Pneumothorax with chest tube placement, a Brain Cyst, Rhinovirus, multiple UTI's, over 20 blood transfusions, platelet transfusions, RSV, and ECMO.
During the pregnancy Illythia's placenta was not attached fully to the uterus, and caused Catlin to bleed for 15 weeks straight, which required two transfusions to compensate. The stress this caused on her body forced the amniotic sac to rupture, but it is unknown exactly when. Catlin recieved steriod injections to try and mature Illythia's lungs to prepare for her premature birth. Illythia had regular major heart decelerations, down into to teens at times, which was caused from the umbilical cord being wrapped around her neck three times. Illythia was not breathing when she was born, but had her eyes wide open looking around, blonde hair, eyelashes, and eyebrows!
Illythia was given the nickname "Mighty Mouse" by the nurses, she was so feisty! They never knew what to expect from her, as she was pulling out IV's and her art line at a week old. Self-extubation was her speciality, keeping her arms down and away from that tube was an art only her primaries knew how to master. No swaddle was strong enough to contain that little one, she would escape and roll to the isolette doors. Time and time again she has surprised everyone with her strength, and her spirit, but unfortunately the RSV has so severely damaged her lungs she cannot survive, even if trached.
Over the next few days the doctors will be switching to comfort care until she passes.
The past 7 months has been a struggle for our family, but such a gift to have Illythia in our lives, even for such a short time.
We are asking for help in covering funeral costs, and lost wages to try and make this time a little less stressful for our family
