Marian's Lymphedema

I have made this gofundme for our wonderful friend Marian Weaver.  Maz is an incredibly clever writer, political and social commentator and mother.

As some of you may know, she has developed severe lymphedema in both of her legs. This means that both legs are chronically swollen, and the trapped lymph fluid interferes with healing, so she is prone to opportunistic infections like cellulitis. Marian has had three hospitalisations to treat cellulitis and complications so far this year.

The swelling drastically affects her mobility, which is already limited due to arthritis in both knees and her left hip.

The recommended treatment is Elevation and Compression, then once swelling starts to go down, light exercise and physio.

Elevation is difficult without an appropriate chair with a footrest (like an electric recliner), and compression requires specifically designed wraps called Farrow Wraps (see the video)

These things are too expensive on Marian's pension.  The wraps cost around $1000 for a set and a good electric recliner as much as $1500

If we get enough to buy both of these then any additional funding will help Marian with medical visits, which she has to do by special taxi, and to purchase dressings and medications that are not available on the PBS.

It's urgent that she gets the treatment she needs before and more serious complications arise, so we're asking for help.
