Help the Wainhouse Family in loving memory of Z

Donation protected
This fundraiser is in loving memory of Zander. After a brave and courageous battle with brain cancer, Zander passed away in his mother’s arms on the morning of Dec 3rd. Together we raised almost $50,000 for Zander and we are asking everybody to come together to continue to donate so the Wainhouse family can take their time to get back on their feet, pay for burial expenses, and pay their bills until Angelina and Scott will gain new employment. Zander’s twin brother Matthew, Angelina and Scott need our support during these difficult times as they start their healing journey.

Please join the Wainhouse family in prayer and support during this difficult time.  Together we are strong!

Alexander ‘Z’ was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, an aggressive form of pediatric brain cancer December 2020. Zander had emergency surgery over Christmas, which went well. He started radiation therapy on Jan 14 and lasted for 6 weeks. His chemotherapy started soon after and last 8 months. Zander was a courageous, gentle and kind warrior through his fight with cancer.

Zander was an active 12-year-old boy who loved to play soccer and baseball. He had been wrestling and skiing since he was 3 years old. He enjoyed mountain biking and playing video games with his friends. He was a math whizz and also wrote fun and innovative creative stories. He spoke both English & French and had been learning Spanish during Covid. Recently he started cooking and makes yummy food for his Home Economics class. He was kind and considerate, helping with chores around the house, walking the family dog, and helping his mom with organizing projects in the house and garage.

Zander’s Journey started last year with a trial study at the University of Washington that uses tumor paint to help highlight the tumor during surgery. Because of the tumor paint used during his surgery, the surgeon was able to see and remove all of the tumor, thereby giving him a much better chance at fighting the cancer. Other areas of study are to improve the treatment of Medulloblastoma include studies to understand the genetic component of the tumor. Doctors were able to use this information to provide targeted treatment of the cancer. This helps zone in on the affected areas rather than exposing the entire brain and spinal cord to radiation and limits the long-term side effects of radiation and chemotherapy to other areas of the brain and body. Such treatments are still in trial phase and more research is required to improve the treatments and provide better care for children like Zander.

Z’s twin brother Matthew and his friends shaved their heads to show support and solidarity with Z as he went through radiation and chemo. Thanks to all those who stood by Zander and all the donations we received. Thank you everybody for joining us in prayer for Z’s protection from all side effects, and in his final days.
With gratitude, the Wainhouse family.
