Help with unexpected utility bill

We were hit with a higher than usual electric bill. We’re not sure why, as our heat runs on gas. We’ve talked to the electric company and they can’t figure out why. Our bill was triple what it was last summer when we ran our ac, which actually uses electric. Either way, I can’t pay it. I’ve never run behind and don’t want to rely on a church that probably has no funds to help and most places won’t help til you get a shut off notice. I also have missed almost a month of work because I had to have a surgery to remove a tumor from my ovary. So we are running way behind. Any money raised will 100%  go to bills. Either my utilities or rent. I’m happy to supply proof of my surgery and my bills that are due.
