*The original story is below, but I wanted to make sure this update is seen first.*
Today Tomisa had her follow up with her doctor. She found out, that the unexpected complications and debilitating symptoms that she has been suffering from, are due to a Hemorrhagic Stroke suffered during her brain surgery, June 4th. The bleed is located in the pons of her brain. The stroke has caused her to need 24 hour care, she cannot be left alone because of the fear she will have a fall, or something worse. She is unable to walk without assistance. Due to the stroke she is experiencing numbness, balance, and coordination complications on her left side. She has lost almost all hearing in her left ear, and she is having major vision issues. To top it off, she is still in a great deal of pain.
Her nurse has recommended that Tomisa go to a nursing home for her recuperation, so she can receive that 24 hour around the clock care. Tomisa, and her family, feel that her being home with her son, sister, brother-in-law, and her faithful companion Leo, would be better for a faster recovery. Sadly, her insurance does not cover the extended home care nurse needed for this to happen.
As if this wasn't enough to deal with, she is being told that she might be permanently disabled and not able to work again. Until this bleed is absorbed, they will not know the extent of the damage done.
As you can imagine, this is causing a tremendous amount of added stress.
We are asking everyone, from the bottom of our hearts, please donate and share this GoFundMe! A dollar, five dollars, or more if you can, will go a long way to bring peace of mind to Tomisa. If you are unable to donate, which I can completely understand, share the heck out of this!
We can do this!! We are almost at the halfway point! I believe we can make it to the goal and beyond that!!
Continue to lift Tomisa up in prayer, send love and healing thoughts, and drop comments of support here...she really appreciates every single one!!

**Original Story**
My good friend, Tomisa, is not one to ask for help, so here I am, asking for her. She's been struggling with this painful and debilitating condition called Trigeminal Neuralgia. It causes major pain, facial spasms, headaches, impaired speech and seizures. She became a candidate for brain surgery at OHSU, and has a date set for June 4th.  Brain surgery: the procedure involves a craniotomy and operating on her brain stem. The surgery is a very risky procedure. As you can imagine she's really nervous for surgery, concerned about her recovery, but also concerned for her son. She has not been left with much choice because permanent damage is being done. The expected recovery time is 6 weeks for basic activity, but 12-18 months for full recovery. She recently lost her health insurance and second source of income, causing her to have to pay triple the premium to stay covered for this surgery. To add to this very stressful time, she was in a hit and run accident just this past weekend...adding insult to injury...leaving her injured and facing yet another expense. She told me she's facing the costs related to surgery at OHSU, with a couple days in the ICU,...estimated cost  at $10,000 as of now, plus missing work and any long term impairment. Even after the surgery's 6 week recovery, it could be 18 months until she's even near normal again. Tomisa volunteers in the community, and started SWESA: SouthWest Emergency Scanner Alerts. I can't even begin to tell you how, or how many, she has helped in so many unselfish ways. From helping people find resources for all kinds of problems, being an ear to hear people's problems, to being a shoulder to cry on. I am proud to call her my friend. She has been there for me in one of my darkest times, helping me with finding resources and her taking the time to reach out and get answers to the questions I had. If you know her, in person, or through our community group, know that she has helped dozens...more than dozens, in such horrible times of need. She's a single mom and still finds the time to be there for us. Tomisa gives so much back to her community, that I can't sit by and hear her worrying about how she's going to make ends meet for herself and her son...let alone afford this necessary life changing surgery. As a single mom she is stressing out enough, I am hoping and praying we can come together and help take some of that burden from her shoulders. I pray that anyone that can help will. A dollar, the cost of a cup of coffee, anything will add up so she has less worry going into this. Please help Tomisa with her brain surgery...give her piece of mind.
