Help with Surgery - Costs and Recovery

Donation protected
8 months after my husband finished his treatment for Oral Cancer I was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in the main artery to my right lung) in December 2018, I have now been offered pulmonary endarterectomy surgery in Cambridge. The operation is 8-12hrs long and I will be in critical care for a week and then transferred to a surgical ward for around another week. Once home it will be a 3 month recovery period. During this time, including the recovery, I will be unable to do anything for myself as my breast bone has to be broken for the surgeon to gain assess to my heart and lungs. I will not be able to wash, move off a chair using my arms, lift a shopping bag or even place washing in the machine.

My husband obviously wants to be by my side through all of this but we have estimated the cost of accommodation near the hospital for the 2 weeks to be approximately £1000.

I have been off work since last December and as such have received all my sick pay and am now living on ESA at £70 per week. My husband is self-employed so does not get any pay whilst off work. Not only do we have the accommodation to think about we also have to worry about day to day bills. This will have a massive financial impact on our lives.

Whilst I should be preparing for this life-threatening operation I can only worry about the financial implications my husband and I face. If I don’t have this operation my life will be limited, not just by months but by years.

We do not like to reach out but would be eternally grateful for any donation to ease the stress and let us prepare for a trying couple of months ahead.

Thank you.
