Help Sam Beat His Seizures

To know Sam is to love him. Sam is one of the sweetest, strongest, and bravest kids. He loves his family, video games, and building forts. When Sam was 2 years old, he began having nocturnal seizures. For a long time, his seizures were confused with a sleep disorder. Finally, his neurologist referred him to an epileptologist, who started working with a team of neurosurgeons, psychologists, and neurologists to figure out why Sam has these nightly seizures, at least 4 or 5 every night. They started prescribing medication that became more and more expensive, which our insurance company would not cover. After time, he seizures would not respond to even the strongest medications. After countless EEGs, which could not show the source of his seizures, the next step was to perform a Stereo EEG, which involves drilling burr holes into his skull and inserting probes to get a better "look" at his brain activity. Two of these SEEGs have been performed, and they still cannot find the origin of his seizures. In the meantime, Sam's seizures continue to get more intense and cause more learning disabilities, but he never loses his sweet demeanor. Sam is currently in the hospital, having undergone a craniotomy where they removed the front portion of his skull and have placed grids directly on his brain, trying one last step to find the source of his seizures. If they can find the source of his seizures, they are hopeful they can remove the affected portion of his brain and hopefully be able to live a seizure free life.
