Help with post-op wound treatment

Donation protected
In August of this year (2017) I went in for what was supposed to be a routine Hernia repair. During surgery there was a complication and 5 or so inches of my small intestine was removed. After a longer than expected recovery I was cleared to return to work and exercise. I followed all of the doctors orders and slowly began regaining my strength. For a while I felt good and was optimistic about being able to continue life as usual.

A career opportunity was presented to me at the end of October and I thought this is it. I can finally get out of debt and no longer will have to struggle check to check. I prepared for an interstate move. I quit my job, donated or sold off the few belongings I had. I even listed my project car for sale. The project that kept me sane on lots of nights spent alone in my garage while people were going out and doing things I simply couldn’t afford to do. I needed to lighten my load so I could afford the move and start the next chapter of my life.

The universe always seems to find a way keep me down. I felt the area surrounding my last surgery becoming painful and swollen. I tried seeing a doctor and had CT Scan done. While waiting for the results my overall health rapidly declined. I felt my body shutting down. On 11/13 I drove myself to the ER. The pain and swelling wound up being an infection that formed a large abscess on the side of my stomach.

I underwent surgery on 11/15 to clean out the infection. This left me with a large hole that couldn’t be closed. The recovery process is centered on a vacuum therapy system. The open wound is packed with a special foam and sealed while a constant vacuum is applied. Once I’m discharged from the hospital the foam and dressing needs to be changed three times a week by a special nurse that will come to my house. The recovery will likely take 3-4 weeks to close the wound and then I can continue with another form of treatment. I also need to be on IV antibiotics this entire time.

I work hard for the little I have but due to this infection I can not move and start my new job. I will be unemployed for approximately two months and honestly don’t know how I’m even going to feed myself or pay rent let alone pay these hospital and treatment bills.

I’m asking for any help I can get to keep a roof over my head, some groceries in the kitchen and pay for the hospital bills and treatment I need to keep my body from developing another infection.

If you know me you know I hate asking anyone for anything but this has put me in the worst spot I’ve ever been in and I feel like I’m at rock bottom. Thank you for taking the time to read this and even if you can’t spare a dollar for my fund please share this on your social media. I appreciate any and all help I get.
