Help with Lulus Surgery

On behalf of my mom Karen, I decided to create this page for help...
Everyone that knows my mom knows that she LOVES her little dog Lulu. Lulu was found by my mom after hurricane Sandy a matted mess and no one claimed her so my mom rescued her, we say that Lulu also rescued my mom too. She is who she comes home to everyday and both so excited to see each other. Well, last night Lulu was attacked by a big dog on an innocent walk in front of my moms house. The dog wouldn't let go of poor 5lb Lulu and the owner of the other dog was not helping. My mom got her free but she is now in the hospital with at least 4 broken ribs and a punctured lung. So far that's all we know and she will have to have surgery once she is stable enough. We don't know who the owner of the dog is and if we can find her (believe me we will try) but so far the vet bills are totally $8,000!! We need to save poor Lulu (and my mom's) life, anything that could be donated would be GREATLY appreciated, thank you VERY much -Erica
