Help with Winky's Eye Surgery!

Donation protected
We adopted our goldendoodle, Winky, in October of last year, when he was about 6 weeks old. Someone was rehoming him for free on Craigslist, because he had a birth defect in his left eye. We hadn’t planned on bringing him home the evening we met him, but we immediately fell in love with him. We stopped by a pet store on our way home, stocked up on puppy supplies, and it’s been an adventure ever since!

Winky is now 8 months old, so we decided to visit an ophthalmologist to determine his opinion on whether we should do anything further with his eye. Upon examination, the ophthalmologist determined that Winky has something called phthisis bulbi instead of microphthalmia, which was his initial diagnosis. This means that at some point, he most likely endured some kind of trauma to his eye and has a ruptured cornea. The ophthalmologist explained that he is both blind in that eye and most likely is in some kind of constant discomfort. If not addressed, his condition would worsen and could affect other parts of his body. We opted to go with the ophthalmologist's suggestion and immediately obtain surgery on his left eye.

The surgery is called enucleation, which means the eye was removed and the lid sewn shut. This means, that while Winky is losing an eye, he is finally gaining comfort, perhaps that he's never even known.

Winky is a special pup! We moved to North Carolina about a year and a half ago, and he has served as an incredible addition and comfort to our family as we build our new life and navigate this big transition. We knew that adopting Winky would mean taking on his condition and learning how to help him thrive. We also knew it would eventually be an expense. But he has absolutely been worth it!

If you have a furry friend, you know that all expenses come out of pocket. We live as a single-income household, so there's not a lot of extra dough lying around! We initially thought we'd have time to prepare for Winky's surgery after his initial appointment, but because we learned it was causing him pain, we opted for the surgery that same day. The $2,200 we are hoping to raise will help us cover Winky's appointments, surgery, and pain management afterwards while he recovers and his stitches heal. Winky is a joy not only to us but also to anyone who graces our home with a visit, and we would be eternally grateful if you would contribute to our sweet pup's care!

For a little thank-you for your contribution, after we close the campaign, we have a few rewards!

$1-$25: you have our absolute gratitude and thanks!

$25-$50: we'll send you an autographed photo of Winky saying thanks.

$50-$100: we'll send a half dozen of our homemade, peanut butter dog treats (we can also make them gluten/allergy free if needed) and an autographed photo of Winky saying thanks.

For anything over $100: we'll send a dozen treats along with an autographed photo of Winky saying thanks.

We appreciate your generosity and thoughtfulness- it means the world to all of us!
