Help Winifred fight cancer

About Winnie/Winifred

Winifred is a 4 year old mix breed street dog from Romania who spent most of her life on the streets and is kennels. Don’t let her age fool you. Winnie is a baby at heart and is more energetic and playful than our one year old whippet boy!

Winnie came in to our lives on 09.03.23 when we were matched with her by a rescue working with Romanian street dogs . The moment we saw her we knew she was exactly what we were looking for and would be the best playmate for our whippet boy who desperately needed one .

We were extremely excited to meet our new girl. The day she came home was such a precious day. She rolled over for cuddles within a few hours and demanded that I pet her instantly .

Our excitement turned to horror when we found that she had large lumps around her neck. Due to improper checks by the rescue , these were never picked up. In the subsequent days our little girl had blood tests, needle aspirations and finally a biopsy on 04.05.23.

On 12.05.23 we received the much awaited calls from the vets and learnt that our worst fears have come true. Winnie has round cell cancer that has spread to her lymph nodes.

What Winnie needs.

What Winnie needed now was an Oncology specialist to review her notes.

Our amazing vets at Willow veterinary clinic, Norwich promptly referred her to The Queens Veterinary School hospital in Cambridge to see a specialist oncologist. Her appointment is scheduled for 17.05.23.

Due this this being pre existent we are having trouble getting the insurance to payout despite her being insured for £15000.

The rescue is unable to cover her treatment costs and as her cancer has already spread the vet has urged us to start treatment ASAP. Due to this reason we had to start fundraising on our own. The rescue has offered to also do auctions in an effort to contribute. 

We do not have the financial capacity to cover her further costs and neither does the charity .We are setting up this account to seek help and to raise enough funds so that we can give her the treatment she deserves before the cancer spreads to a point where nothing can be done.

The worst part is, that her cancer is TVT and an aggressive variant at that as it has already spread to other organs from its primary source in her mouth. TVT is a transmissible cancer and this means our other two dogs are now put at high risk as they have been playing together with the same toys and eating and drinking from the same bowls. 

The vets have asked us to do regular checks on them for signs of the cancer and if they develop any signs, they would need aggressive treatment .

Winifred has only just gotten a place to call home and we want to do our very best to keep her happy, safe and healthy.

She is a strong gal and despite all that she has gone through, remains happy and playful. We believe in her . Winifred deserves to live and together we can give her the life she deserves .
