Help protect vulnerable people from climate change

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Rose Taylor and along with a group of my friends, I am trying to raise money for MEER, a community interest group that are using reflective technology (essentially mirrors made from recycled materials to reflect heat back to space) to lower earth surface temperatures and the subsequent impacts of climate change. On a local scale, this simple technology is allowing communities most vulnerable to the heating effects of climate change a chance at survival. On a global scale, it could reduce global heating from greenhouse gas emissions.

MEER have a number of projects globally, including in Sierra Leone, west Africa. This is a country particularly vulnerable to climate change as a result of its proximity to the equator and resulting extreme heat. This is exacerbated by the extreme poverty in which many people live. Day to day life becomes almost impossible as the temperatures continue to rise year on year. Residents find themselves unable to stay inside during daylight hours due to this extreme heat and the basic homes they live in. The reflective roofs that MEER are providing enable localised cooling which actually reduces the temperature inside these homes by about 5 degrees celcius. You can read more about the science behind these projects here: https://www.meer.org/about.

Working as the climate change and sustainability lead at Chew Valley School, and in particular with the Climate Action Team (made up of 30 children aged 11-17), has been incredibly rewarding. It was through the team's work as the world's first Net Zero Interact club that we first linked up with MEER. We started fundraising for them in April and have a number of fundraising events lined up.

In order to support the fundraising, my friends and I plan on walking 28 miles over the 28 bridges of Bristol in September all in one day! Please give generously to support the work of MEER. We'll be starting at the iconic Clifton Suspension Bridge, as seen here in a picture with my son!

Please note that MEER is a very new organisation and they're starting small. However, they're dreaming big and want to reduce global heating (by reflecting the heat back to space) on a global scale. They're on the first step of this journey, please help!

Please watch this amazing video that MEER made the climate action team of Chew Valley School after their initial fundraising effort.
