Hip Revision Surgery Help for Vikki

Donation protected
Dear friends and family:

My name is Vikki Varnals and I desperately need your help so that I can have hip revision surgery to correct the failed hip replacement surgery I had in June 2018(cup in wrong position, dislocated, tendonitis). I need immediate surgery as I am in constant pain and more damage is being done daily. The surgery costs over $35,000 but my goal is to raise half so that I can get in for surgery right away.

ABOUT

I have always been a very active and busy working woman. I work in real estate sales, which requires tons of walking and driving. After raising 2 grown, wonderful sons, I now have 4 legged “kids” at home and I foster/volunteer through a local dog rescue organization. I specialize in injured dogs and love to give them TLC until they eventually go to their forever homes.

A few months ago, I was on my way to pick up my sick dog from the vets when I got rear ended on the freeway. Luckily I was in an SUV, which saved my life, but totaled my car. The other driver left her car completely totaled. She told witnesses she had a warrant for her arrest and it wasn’t her car, so she fled the scene – it was a hit and run. To make matters worse, the owner of the vehicle is not giving up the name of the driver that caused the hit and run. The damage to my SUV was just the beginning of my problems.

I found out in March that I had “Avascular Necrosis”, which is the dying of a bone due to a lack of blood supply. I also had a labrum tear in my hip, caused by trauma (from the car accident).

June 25th 2018 my “nightmare” began with Kaiser. I had total hip replacement surgery and, being 55 years old, had no knowledge of what the procedure entailed. I have been in constant pain since the surgery. Even the Physical Therapist that came to my house could not understand why I was not progressing and still in pain.

I kept asking the surgeon but he just brushed me off. He wasn’t concerned even at my 6 week appointment – still in a walker and not able to lift my leg or move it to the side, or even walk.

On August 19th, almost eight weeks after surgery, I felt something shift in my hip and I’m feeling extreme pain 24/7. The pain is now a 10 out of 10.

After exhausting all efforts with Kaiser, I got a 2nd opinion outside of Kaiser. The 2nd opinion told me that the cup was not put in the right position and I am partially dislocated and I have tendonitis (which explains the pain). He said I need hip revision surgery ASAP.

Kaiser has refused to help me with the revision surgery as this would prove the Surgeon did a terrible job. So I have no option, if I want to get out of pain and be able to walk and live again, but to pay out of pocket for surgery (Outside of Kaiser). Living in constant pain has become unbearable.

I have been unable to work this summer, which is my busy time and I’ll need more time to heal after the revision surgery so I am hoping that I can get some help for this urgently needed surgery!

I have been blessed with family and friends who have brought over meals. It has been humiliating not being able to dress or groom myself, walk without pain and a walker, and I haven’t driven in over 3 months.

I may never know who caused the original accident, but I need this problem fixed. I’m looking forward to having my hip fixed, being out of this horrific pain, and being able to live again. Thank you so much for helping me in my darkest hours.
