As many of you know, about five years ago I had major dental work done that resulted in mercury poisoning which severely compromised my immune system. Soon thereafter I developed systemic candida and an autoimmune response manifesting as horrible sores on my gums, soft pallet, and in my throat whenever I ate certain foods or experienced any kind of trauma in my mouth (e.g. dental work, biopsy, etc). During this time I've lost 40 pounds because not only has it been horribly painful to eat, but WHAT I am able to eat has continually narrowed.
I've used both conventional western allopathic medical approaches and holistic ones during this time. My Affordable Care Act insurance covers the allopathic treatments but NOT the holistic treatments, the ones that have helped the most. Nor does my insurance cover the dental work, which had to be put on hold while we've tried to get the sores under control. In November the treatment for an abscessed tooth alone cost $7300. All had to be put on a medical credit card.
The good news is that I've found a functional medicine doctor who is renowned for work with autoimmune disorders. Unfortunately, however, this physician is out of network and I must pay out of pocket for my care.
So, generous souls, I'm asking for help to pay for my acupuncture, colon hydrotherapy, out of network doctor visits, completion of the dental work, supplements, as well as some much needed time off to rest and focus on my healing in body/mind/spirit.
Prior to October 2018 I missed only one day of work due to the sores but now I'm worn out and need some down time. As much as I have loved my work as a chaplain all these years, I can't give what I no longer have. I'm turning to my family and friends to get me through to the Spring of 2019 by which time I hope to be back to full health.
Once I am healthy again and out from under the medical bills, if there are any funds left over from this GoFundMe appeal, I will use them to make my "Auntie Tour", seeing all the nieces, nephews, great and great great ones included, who I have not yet met. Having no children of my own, my role as Auntie has always been such a key part of who I am and one of my greatest joys in life. This Auntie Tour is at the top of my Bucket List and I hope to be well enough to undertake it soon.
