Help Vick & Mitch Rebuild Their Home

Vicky and Milton Mitchell lost their home, all their belongings and their cars in the Telegraph Point flash flooding on Friday 19th March. 

They were stuck neck deep in flood water before being rescued by their son Andrew and son-in-law Chris, who took them to the local sports club as an evacuation point. Very quickly the flood water began to fill the club as well, where they waited frantically for Andrew to finish rescuing other residents from their flooded homes, until finally the boat was available to take Vick and Mitch to a safer place.

Their lives were luckily saved but they lost everything else. The flood water reached above the door arches inside of their home. During the 40+ years that they lived in their home they had never experienced flooding like this disaster, so at an extra cost of $5000+ per year, unfortunately their insurance does not cover flood damage.

Their daughter Casey, her partner Chris and their 2 young daughters lived next door to them, and they have also lost everything after all their hard work for their young family. They are all seeking refuge next door in the second storey of Andrew and Rachel’s home, which had been completely flooded in the bottom storey. Three generations washed away. There are currently 6 adults and 2 children squeezed into a small 2 bedroom home trying to figure out the next step.

The Mitchell Family is absolutely devastated and unsure how to move forward. Milton had only just retired a month prior after working hard his whole life to provide for his family and their home. After all his blood, sweat and tears, he’s back to square one with nothing but the soaked clothes on his back.
