WHO WE ARE
The farm is run by me Nicolò my sister Giulia and Mia. We are all in our twenties, taking care of this farm of 81 hectares.
OUR FARM | VILLA FONTEINTANA
Our place is called Villa Fonteintanata, (Villa of the hidden spring) because there’s a natural water source, somewhere, that hid at one time.
As far as it’s documented, the house where we live is 400 years old, my grandfather bought it in the early ’80s and it’s been passed down from generation to generation.
Besides the historical house, we are surrounded by 81 hectares of fields which only 10 hectares of the total surface of the farm are properly maintained. In these few square meters, we grow our vegetables and take care of chickens, bees, and goats.
Our community is comprised of the most gentle souls: our lovely animals. We have 2 beautiful dogs, 3 cats, a wide variety of poultry, a dozen families of bees, and few goats.
OUR COMMUNITY
One of our biggest aims in this place is to build a biodynamic self-sufficient community, a way of living established on communal-based activities which promote collective living and raise awareness of the problem with single-use plastic and waste in general.
Even though we are far from reaching the community as we would like to, we are proud to count on more than 10 years of participating in volunteering programs with WWOOF, Worldpackers, and other platforms. Until now we hosted people from all around the world, our Fonteintanata family is very wide.
OUR SITUATION
We're constantly putting so much energy into tiny improvements of the farm, making sure we give the best lives to our animals, making the most of what we have right now, but we don't really see big progress.
Unfortunately, we don't have enough funds to invest in projects, a place of these dimensions involves huge expenses and we feel that our resources are a little depleted all year long.
We now feel that it’s time to put all our effort and build something that goes beyond it, explore different ways of getting people involved, and who knows maybe get enough funds to see this farm grow and shine!
FUNDS FOR WHAT?
- Building a whole self-Sufficient water system collecting rainwater and storing the water coming out from a natural source we discovered a few days ago underground. Right now water expenses are one of the biggest we face every month, and we can't even think of expanding the farm, being dependent on public service.
- Fixing the wells (as it's been destroyed by trees roots) and waterproofing the construction will cost around 3000 €
- Buy at least 2 water collection tanks 8000€
- Buy a new drip irrigation system for the vegetable garden in order to save water
- Buy at least 4x mobile ECO tiny houses with all commodities for the future community around 9000 € each.
- We want to invest in adopting or acquiring more livestock, e.g cows and pigs, and building up shelters and accommodations. Around 3000€
