Home to one of the most powerful beach breaks on Earth: Zicatela.

For years, this wave —the heart of our town— was weakened by a breakwater built in the main bay (Bahía Principal). Its rocks changed the currents, the sandbars, and the magic of the wave we all know and love.

But in June 2025, Mother Nature spoke.
Hurricane Erick tore down part of the breakwater.
And for the first time in years, the waves could breathe again.

The people of Puerto Escondido came together: Fishermen, surfers, families, and volunteers all showed up. In a massive community effort known as “Tequio”, we removed rocks with our bare hands.

We did it with hope.

Motivated by our love for the ocean.
And with the belief that together, we can achieve amazing things.
But there’s still work to do. There are tons of rocks remaining underwater that can only be removed with heavy machinery.

That’s why we’ve launched this campaign.
We need to raise 1 million pesos —this is around 50 thousand dollars— to bring our Bahia Principal fully back to her natural state. If you’ve ever surfed Zicatela, if you’ve ever felt its energy…
or if you simply believe in the power of people and nature united, this is your moment to help.

Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca… hogar de una de las olas más poderosas y mágicas del planeta: Zicatela.

Durante años, esta ola —el corazón de nuestra comunidad— fue afectada por un rompeolas construido en la Bahía Principal. Sus piedras alteraron las corrientes, cambiaron el fondo marino y debilitaron la fuerza de nuestra ola.

Pero en junio de 2025, la madre naturaleza hizo lo que muchos soñábamos: el huracán Erick destruyó parte del rompeolas.

Las olas comenzaron a respirar de nuevo.

Y fue entonces cuando el pueblo se unió.

Pescadores, surfistas, vecinos, niños y abuelos salimos juntos en un gran tequio, removiendo con nuestras propias manos las piedras que quedaban.

Lo hicimos con esperanza, con amor por el mar y por este lugar que nos da tanto.

Hoy, necesitamos tu ayuda para continuar.

Aún hay toneladas de piedras que solo pueden removerse con maquinaria pesada.

Para eso, lanzamos esta campaña para recaudar 1 millón de pesos mexicanos —alrededor de 50 mil dólares— que permitirán devolverle por completo la vida a nuestra bahía.
