Help us save Igor

Please take a moment to read my story as it took everything out of me to write it.... My wonderful husband Igor, love of my life and father of my son, was diagnosed with a very rare type of cancer. He was told by his oncologist that he has 1 year of life left.... He is only 38 years old and I am urgently trying to raise funds for his treatment.

Purpose:

To fund a pioneering cancer treatment (our only hope) for my husband Igor.

About Igor:

Igor is a scientist (PhD in Chemistry). Besides being exceptionally smart, he is incredibly kind, loving and patient. Our marriage of 12 years has been blessed with a baby son, Stefan, who is 3 years old now. I hope Stefan will grow to be just like his father. But most of all I hope he will be able to spend time with him and build happy memories. His father is very sick and without lifesaving treatment he will only have a short time left with his family who loves him with all their hearts.

Igor’s diagnosis:

Igor’s cancer came unannounced, without major symptoms. After a year of tummy related complaints, in July 2017 Igor was referred to a specialist consultant. It was then that we learned the devastating news that he has an incredibly rare form of cancer called –

Desmoplastic Small round cell tumour (a form of sarcoma).

This type of cancer occurs most commonly in young males and it is extremely aggressive. It is usually found in the abdomen, but it can also occur in other parts of the body. Due to its rarity (only 200 documented cases in the past 20 years worldwide) and an aggressive nature, there are no standardized conventional treatments available. Treatment offered by the NHS consists of blasting Igor’s body with a combination of intensive chemotherapy drugs in hope that something will work. However, his oncologist has honestly advised us that since his disease had already metastasized to two lymph nodes (one in the neck and one in the chest) 1 year life expectancy was all to expect with any conventional treatment.

Our Hope:

Igor has spent many hours researching his condition. He has found that alternative treatments are available elsewhere in Europe, USA, and Japan but not in UK.

Some of the pioneering treatments which give us hope include oncolytic virus therapy, immunotherapy and various metabolic therapies available in Germany. Igor has discussed this alternative approach with his oncologist and has been given very helpful advice and support even though this treatment cannot actually be offered on theNHS.

The first phase involves a week long treatment in Germany, followed by further follow-up treatments every seven weeks. It is likely that Igor will need to undergo this therapy for several years. We were able to raise funds in order to complete the first phase of the treatment but are now desperately trying to raise more. I know that there are so many wonderful people out there who are willing and able to help us with their donations. I am hoping that this page reaches such people fast. I cannot express how much we appreciate all the kindness and support given to us already.
