Help Little Girl Continue SMA Treatment

Gvantsa, 1.5 old Georgian girl is struggling with Spinal Muscular Atrophy1 (SMA) from the moment of her birth. She is from the family living in extreme poverty.
As SMA is inevitably a fatal disease and the treatment is not available in Georgia, the family hurried to obtain the treatment in any of the countries outside of Georgia that would give them a chance to fight this brutality disease.
The family could never afford to treat their baby out of pocket as the treatment of SMA is recognized as one of the most expensive in the world. For that reason, In July 2019 family left for France with the help of friends and requested asylum to obtain the chance for a little girl’s treatment under the state-funded health programs. In France, Gvantsa was refused the treatment, therefore the family had no other chance but to move to Italy with the hope to find support there and they succeeded. For now, with the help of state funding, Gvantsa is undergoing lifelong SPINRAZA treatment in the Bambina Gesu hospital in Rome.
The family without shelter lived on the premises of the hospital for 4 months. After that, the hospital recommended renting the apartment that would have been properly equipped and ventilated to care for the baby with such a disease. For recent months they have been renting the apartment and submitted documents to obtain living permission in Italy that would ensure granting of state social aid. Parents, dividing the care after the baby, have been working hard to earn for renting, living and basic needs.
COVID-19 related months-long quarantine and economic crisis in Italy deprived them all chances to work, the permission documents are also pending. The family is running out of all resources necessary for renting the apartment. In the next month, they will be left outside, without shelter.

ამ დაავადების მკურნალობა ყველაზე ძვირადღირებულია მსოფლიოში, საქართველოში კი საერთოდ არ არის ხელმისაწვდომი. ამიტომ, გასული წლის ივლისში მეგობრების და შემომწირველების დახმარებით გვანცას ოჯახი საფრანგეთში წავიდა თავშესაფრის მაძიებლად იმ იმედით, რომ ბავშვი ევროპის სახელმწიფო დახმარების პროგრამით მიიღებდა მკურნალობას. საფრანგეთმა მკურნალობაზე უარი თქვა და ოჯახი იტალიაში გადავიდა, სადაც ბავშვი ჯანმრთელობის მდგომარეობის გამწვავების შედეგად რომში არსებულ კლინიკა „ბამბინა ჯესუ“-ში მოხვდა. ამავე კლინიკაში მოხდა გვანცას ჩართვა სპინრაზა (SPINRAZA) მედიკამენტით მკურნალობის უფასო სახელმწიფო პროგრამაში. გვანცა უკვე 1 წელია მკურნალობს და ყოველი ინექციის შემდეგ მისი ჯანმრთელობის მდგომარეობა საგრძნობლად უმჯობესდება.
