Help Us Save Albert!

Albert’s story is an amazing one – one of great sadness as well as one of “truly meant to be”! Last Saturday, one of our volunteers received a call from a friend that there was a super friendly cat at a colony by their job. He was going up to everyone and anyone crying and jumping up on them! He was begging for help!! The volunteer was at another event, but jumped in her car and flew down the highway to get to the location (which was 25 min away) – hoping and praying to get to this beautiful friendly boy before he ended up in the wrong hands in the heavily populated parking lot.

Unfortunately, her biggest fear was realized - when she arrived, Albert was nowhere to be found. Feeling defeated, she left knowing that there was nothing to do other than hope he’d end up by the colony during feeding times. Then Amy had an idea! - it was possible he could have been picked up and brought to the shelter, so she reached out to the director and sure enough, he was there!!! The feeling of elation is an understatement.  We wanted him ASAP, but as with all shelters, he had to remain on a 7-day stray hold. We went to see him and he was sniffling a bit and looked pretty sickly. Although the shelter really did take great care of him – gave him meds and even tested him for FeLV/FIV (negative!) – he needed to be in a foster home with one-on-one attention.

Saturday couldn’t come fast enough – we wanted our boy home with us. When we went to pick him, the vet tech told us how truly sick he really is! A bad upper respiratory infection, almost no appetite (skin and bones), sores on his mouth, a lot of missing fur, and a possible ear infection. As soon as we took him out of the carrier in his foster home, he purred so loudly and just wanted affection. He is such a special boy and deserves every opportunity to have a wonderfully long healthy life.

In the past two days, he’s barely eaten and is drinking a lot of water (which is concerning). Even though he’s very congested and exhausted from his ordeal, he doesn’t stop purring and crawls right up onto his foster mom’s lap any time she sits down. He is an absolute angel.

Because of his condition, he needs immediate vet care – definitely bloodwork and x-rays and whatever else the vet feels is necessary. We’re extremely concerned with his emaciated state and his little desire to eat. We’re hoping he doesn’t have a blockage or any other life-threatening condition.

If you could be so kind to help us help him, we’d be extremely grateful! Every little bit helps – no amount is too small.

Thank you so much – Love from Albert <3
