High School Helping Guatemalan Students
Donation protected
Hello, I am Elijah Dubon, a student at Venice High School in Los Angeles. I established the first Native American Heritage Club at our school to bring awareness to our student body and others about our ancestral communities (my Xinca and others’ indigenous groups). Our inaugural project will be aiding Escuela, “Official Rural Mixta Aldea Oliveros,” in the village of El Jobito, Guatemala - my grandparent’s hometown. This school teaches in both Spanish and Xinca.
Sadly, that area is severely impacted by poverty plus climate change. The school has serious needs: functioning toilets, a refrigerator and hot plate to fix lunch for the students, basic supplies and texts. We especially want technical assistance to introduce them to computers so these kids may thrive in tomorrow’s world.
Please help us - be a part of rescuing this Escuela. Our Club is coordinating with Board Members from Fors Humanitas, a 501 C-3 nonprofit that mentors students, so you can feel confident that your donation will be used only for the specified school needs. And, if your funding comes through, we would like to visit the Escuela to personally present materials, oversee rehabilitation and deliveries - plus meet the kids!
Thank you for considering my project. Questions may be sent to [email redacted].
Sincerely,
Elijah Dubon, on behalf of our Native Heritage Club
