Help us Reopen The Bar Method Darien

Hi Bar Method family-

We set up this page in response to the many requests and offers to help our studio. So many of you have graciously asked how you can donate and assist us in repairing the damage done to BMD Wednesday night. We were hit hard by Hurricane Ida - the entire space we know and love flooded.

At first, we thought this would be a relatively simple carpet replacement, but we have learned that this will be a much more extensive project to get the studio back in working order. We have received detailed information about what definitely needs to happen as well as what potentially may come up as we move forward. 

We removed the existing (drenched) carpet and underlayment. Thankfully, we were able to get this done on Thursday and have had high-speed fans/dehumidifiers running ever since. We are working to remove as much moisture as possible from the entire space and this is going to cost approximately $3,000.

The carpet and special mat underlayment now need to be replaced in the studio room. The cost of these goods and labor (in order to have these installed based on Bar Method standards) is $31,500. This will also include removing and replacing our glass half-wall (that runs along the Post Road) then reinstalling it afterwards.

We are having other parts of the damage assessed by professionals and, unfortunately, will not know the extent of the work for a few days. Potential further costs include: removing and replacing the drywall; repainting the walls; removing and replacing all floor posts; removing and replacing some or all of our millwork; and reinstalling our porcelain tiles in the lobby. In the event these all take place, the total estimated cost will be $121,000. 

Hopefully we will know about the potential further costs next week and will update you as we find out.

Many of you have asked if our insurance will cover the damages. We have been told by our brokers that it is not likely, since we were unable to obtain flood insurance due to the zone we are in. Truth be told, we hesitated to put this up because we have already asked so much from our community this past year and a half, but in reality, we need help if we are going to get through this. 

Thank you for the love that you all have given us over the last couple of days (and of course these past 18 months!) It has proven, once again, how special this community is and how important it is that we try to save it. We love you all so much.
